Al's Contest Corner

The Mighty DK

Over it's history, the Radio Club of Tacoma has seen periods of intense, highly competitive interest in contesting.  Our present contest style is more about providing on-the-air experience for newer operators than it is about racking up the highest possible score.  Our equipment is first-rate, and our antenna farm is pretty good for the space available on a city lot.  Sometimes, we make a noise.

Upcoming contest plans

June 22-25, Field Day - the annual emergency preparedness exercise

As usual in recent years, W7DK will deploy to the field at Western State Hospital in Lakewood.  We plan 4A or 5A operation, a bicycle-powered QSO demonstration, possible balloon-lifted 160M operation, and who knows what else?  Details are here.

September 15-16, The Salmon Run (Washington State QSO Party)

W7DK always puts in a big effort for this contest, both at the Clubhouse and through members contributing expeditionary operations.

Recent W7DK contest participation

May 5, 7th Area QSO Party

March 3-4, ARRL International DX SSB

April 14-15, Georgia QSO Party

April 15, Rookie Roundup (SSB)

W7OS Antique Radio Museum

Classic radios are fun to operate in contests too.  And some contests are specifically designed for classic radios.  Look for Museum stations on the air during Straight Key Night, Classic Exchange, and other contests.
