General License Classes
General licenses classes meet at the Radio Club of Tacoma clubhouse on Monday evenings from 7 PM until 9 PM for 10 weeks. Depending on how well the class goes it may be extended for one or two weeks.
Our next General Class is now scheduled to begin 28th of September 2026 at 7pm at the Radio Club of Tacoma. If you would like to attend, please be sure and contact Dave Brookes (information below) to register for the class.
Manuals needed for class:
ARRL General Class License Manual (General Class Manual - 10th Edition) - Beginning in July 2023 we will be using this newest edition of the General Class manual. Here are two recommendations for obtaining the current manual, 10th edition - ARRL.ORG and Amazon.com
ARRL FCC Rules and Regulations Manual or obtain them from the FCC Title 47 Website (Online Version)... The new rules and regulations in the ARRL manual are up to date as of February 01, 2024.
There is a materials package required for the course, which contains quizzes and other materials as needed ($15.00). The materials package will be available during the first couple of classes.
Each student will need to purchase their own Books and Manuals for the class.

Extra License Classes
Extra license classes meet at the Radio Club of Tacoma clubhouse on Monday evenings from 7 PM until 9 PM for 12 weeks. It may take longer and that will be determined by the instructor depending on class circumstances.
The class instructors are Dave Brooks N7HT and Galen Sutton KA7UQH. Please register for the class by contacting Dave Brooks. His contact info is listed below. If you use his email to register for the class please be sure and put "Extra Class Course" in the subject line of the email.
Manuals needed for the Extra license class include:
ARRL Extra Class License Manual, 13th editionthARRL Extra Class License Manual, 13th edition. This current edition of the Extra Class manual will expire at the end of June 2028. The next edition of the Extra Class manual should be available no later then the end of June 2028.
ARRL FCC Rules and Regulations Manual, fifth edition (effective date of 2024).
There is also a materials package that will be available from the class instructor, Dave Brooks N7HT. This package is required and will cost $15.00 and contains quizzes and other materials that are needed for the class.
Each student will be required to obtain their own manuals before class begins. They can be found on the www.arrl.org website, plus other places. You may also come into the Radio Club of Tacoma on a Saturday morning and purchase a manual from Stephen AD7AB (
Testing sessionLicense Exams(s) are held at the Radio Club of Tacoma on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.
