Radio Club of Tacoma

RCT ClubhouseThe Radio Club of Tacoma is a nonprofit public service organization serving FCC-licensed amateur ("ham") radio operators in Pierce County, Washington, and throughout the South Puget Sound region.

Visitors and new members are always welcome! We hope you'll take the opportunity to check in to the club's weekly two meter net, attend a club meeting, sign up for a class, visit the Clubhouse on Saturday, take a turn operating the W7DK radio station, discover the library, explore the W7OS Antique Radio Museum, or join us at one of our many activities scheduled throughout the year.

 Next Club Meeting

Saturday, October 6, 1:30pm to 3pm - General meeting and Program

Earlier this year, we moved to a new meeting time and place.

See the Club Meetings page for more information and directions to general membership meetings.

Clubhouse Activities

Wednesday, September 26 - 7:00 PM - Fourth Wednesday Activity Night at the Clubhouse

Welcome to Amateur Radio!  Did you buy a cheap HT?  Many of us do.  But whatever brand or price range you chose, you have probably noticed that an amazing number of features are packed into these tiny packages.  Now, do you know how to program it?  Although the specifics of each possible radio can't be covered in the time available, this month we'll look at HT programming for simplex and analog repeater use in general terms, focusing on things you need to know, whichever radio you have.  We'll also consider after-market antenna designs.

Upcoming Events

August 31 thru September 23 - RCT booth at the Washington State Fair, more info here.

September 15 and 16 - Salmon Run (WA state QSO Party), see rules at the WWDXC site.  W7DK will operate from the RCT Clubhouse throughout the contest, and several member expeditions will activate other counties.

September 24 thru December 10 - Extra Class License upgrade course at the Clubhouse, details here.

October - Director and Vice Director election ballots will be mailed to ARRL members early this month.  In the NW Division, there are three candidates are vying for each of the Director (AB7ZQ, N7DRW, W7VO) and Vice Director (KB7HDX, KL7WM, NS7U) seats.  In the 2015 election, less than 22% of NW Division members voted -- a better turnout this time would be a good thing!

October - Radio Club of Tacoma election ballots will be mailed to RCT members mid-month.  At the November Annual Meeting the ballots will be counted.  Watch for details about the candidates in the October issue of the Bark.  General election information is available here.

December 2 - Annual Awards Banquet, details available soon.
